Goldie Leigh Hospital
Petals Therapeutic Allotment

Type: Healthcare
Client:  Oxleas NHS Trust
Location: South East London
Status: On site 2025

The Petals Allotment sits in the centre of the Goldie Leigh Hospital. Currently, it is used by 6 separate groups from both the Goldie Leigh Hospital site and the wider community.

The site plays a vital role in the active therapy of patients and is led by a phenomenal team of Occupational Therapists. However, the use of the site is often limited by the weather when it gets cold in the winter or hits 40 degrees in the summer.
Through extensive community consultation and exhibitions, Becoming X has drawn together a plan to extend the existing brick building on site and create a covered workspace, store and naturally lit interior that will ensure the site can be used year-round.

This will benefit the Goldie Leigh Hospital as a healthcare centre, and part of the Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. It provides care to patients of all ages, with services ranging from adults with learning difficulties, adults’ community and offender mental health, to therapy for children and young people. The ambition is to further connect the site and its users to their natural surroundings and, in doing so, enhance the health and well-being of both the patients and service providers. .
